DIY Wall Frame for Artwork (and papers)
If you’re in the season of life where your kids are brining home TONS of papers every single day from school, you’ll want to pause what you’re doing and read this!
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE when my kids bring home papers. I get to see what they are working on and I also love seeing their creative projects. So, in order us to SEE their papers and admire them, I created this DIY wall frame.
MATERIALS
Wall paint (I used BM Dark Olive)
Paint brush
Trim moulding (and a nail gun/nails to attach to the wall)
Wood candlesticks
Painted shapes
Hot glue gun
String/twine
Mini clothespins
Command Strips
And…artwork
PROCESS
Cut your trim moulding to size and create your frame at the desired size. Paint the wall and trim moulding. Our frame is 79x48. I created the size to fill the space the best, but also be equal distance from the door trim, ceiling, and floor trim. I also needed to avoid the light switch and outlet.
Measure out your desired distance from each art line and make a pencil mark so you know where to put your command strip. Each line is about 18 inches apart. (These ceilings are 9ft. If you have an 8ft ceiling, it may be best to have 3 rows).
Use your hot glue gun to attach your wood image to the wood candle stick. (I used hot glue so we could take off the image and change it when we want to.)
I cut my command strips to size to fit on the back of the wood candle stick and then put them on and wall where I made each mark. Be sure they are level!
5. Wrap the twine around each wood candle stick and tie it so it will not come loose. I left a little bit of play in the line so it wouldn’t be too tight and pull off the wall.
6. Put the mini clothespins on the line and hang your artwork!
Why I love it:
It fills the wall space perfectly.
Gives us functional and beautiful decor that everyone is proud of.
Can be changed as often as we like.
It is a dedicated space for papers. When the kids make something they are proud of, they hang it up on their line!
Blends in with the rest of our home. We have trim moulding in other spaces in the house. Also, the Dark Olive paint color is in another area of our home.
